The Ladder of Art -- Week #34

Cast your votes for up to four of these seven artists by Friday July 26.  For clarifications, consult the Ladder of Art FAQ.

In Week #33 we saw Gerard von Honthorst shake things up by earning the bye week.  This sets up a tough tough challenge for Week #34's three 20th century new entrants, who have to face a tough group of veterans who are all already on the all-time top ten list of Ladder of Art winners.  But maybe this is the week that some of them finally get knocked off!  Let's find out.

Davis and Canaletto! That's it for me, this week.

For myself: first of all, it's really nice to have a chance to cast a negative vote against the asshole vulgarians Gilbert & George -- it makes me happy to make the vote, and I'm sure it would make them happy to get it.

I don't think the Schmidt-Rottluff specimans here are any great shakes, but looking at a wider sampling of Schmidt-Rottluff's work I see a lot of good stuff. Not quite enough to vote for him to hang with this crowd, though.

So let's see. Vote for Chase obviously, and less obviously for Davis. Which leaves one for... well, I've been pretty inconsistent when Kalf and Daubigny go head to head, but this time I'm going Daubigny.

I like them all, but I guess I'll go with the bottom 4.

I actually kind of like Gilbert and George. They are certainly one of a kind! But they won't make my top 4 here, so Michael5000 can be pleased that them receiving -1 is still in play. But I agree with Michael that the Karl Schmidt-Rottluff images not shown here are pretty cool, so he will get my vote. And then I'll go with Canaletto, Kalf, and Daubigny.
