If you thought the recent Klimt/Hopper match was emotionally difficult, there's great news: it has been declared a tie! After locking up at six votes apiece, those painters will now try their skills against another pair that tied in the Left Fifth: Caravaggio and Frederick Church. Klimt takes on Caravaggio today; Church and Hopper will go head to head starting this Thursday.

Gustav Klimt
1862 - 1918
Austrian
Gustav Klimt painted... many scenes at the Attersee, a lake near Salzburg where he often spent his summers beginning in 1900. Klimt frequently used a telescope or opera glasses when composing his landscapes; these devices allowed him to see in great detail while at the same time collapsing the middle distance. The flatness of the resulting close-up perspective gives the surface of the canvas the appearance of a densely knotted tapestry....

Caravaggio by far.
Caravaggio
Oh, Caravaggio by a mile.
Brutal match-up! Apples to oranges! M5000 is mean!
I really don't want to have to make this decision. I think they are both incredible. I love how when you look at a Google Image page they are similarly consistent but in opposite ways (dark versus gold). Still, despite his exponentially greater impact, there are many Caravaggio's that I actively dislike. Also, Klimt's glowing gold just makes me a little happier.

Susan votes Caravaggio!
