Left Bracket Fifth Round: Rivera v. Signac!

This Left Bracket Fifth Round match pairs Diego Rivera (6-1, 53-20, .646) against Paul Signac (4-1, 32-25, .561).  Rivera has bumped out Alfred Sisley (6-2-1, 66-42, .611), whereas Signac got here through a fifth-round loss to Charles Sheeler.

Diego Rivera
1886 - 1957
Mexican
Rivera was among the leading members and founders of the Mexican Muralist movement. Deploying a style informed by disparate sources such as European modern masters and Mexico's pre-Columbian heritage, and executed in the technique of Italian fresco painting, Rivera handled major themes appropriate to the scale of his chosen art form: social inequality; the relationship of nature, industry, and technology; and the history and fate of Mexico. More than half a century after his death, Rivera is still among the most revered figures in Mexico, celebrated for both his role in the country's artistic renaissance and re-invigoration of the mural genre as well as for his outsized persona.

Paul Signac
1863 - 1935
French
Signac's style changed substantially as he incorporated the techniques and theories of Neo-Impressionism (also known as "Divisionism" and "Pointillism") that he developed in collaboration with Georges Seurat.... While he is best known for his paintings and well-developed preparatory sketches, Signac was also an innovator in his extensive experimentation with a variety of media, from printmaking techniques like lithography and etching to watercolor and pen-and-ink, including painstaking sketches for paintings produced in tiny dots. Regardless of the medium, he persistently created forms without relying on line, which imposed a consistent level of abstraction on all of his work.

  6. You know, I don't think I love Rivera, but I keep finding myself voting for him. Well, in this case my dislike for Signac makes it an easy one.
