This Left Bracket Fifth Round match pairs Édouard Manet (6-1, 62-33, .653) against Paul Klee (4-1-1, 45-26, .634).
Édouard Manet
1832 - 1883
French
He himself wrote that he had “no intention of overthrowing old methods of painting, or creating new ones.” The critic Louis Gonse viewed things slightly differently. “Manet is a point of departure, the symptomatic precursor of a revolution,” he wrote. To this day, Manet is still considered by many art historians to be the father of modernism.

1879 - 1940
German
Klee is known for his simple stick figures, suspended fish, moon faces, eyes, arrows, and quilts of color, which he orchestrated into fantastic and childlike yet deeply meditative works.... By 1915, he had turned his back to nature and never again painted after the model. With abstracted forms and merry symbols, he expressed the most diverse subjects drawn from his imagination, poetry, music, literature, and his reaction to the world around him . His subjects reveal his impish humor and his bent toward the fantastic and the meditative.

Last round, I said "It's going to be hard to get me to vote against that great cat painting." I think Klee is good enough to do just that! Klee!

Susan votes for Manet.
Klee. I like his work better, but I also just don't vote for people who paint pictures of naked women with clothed men at picnics, even if it was a long time ago and that was what everyone was doing. I'd rather have colorful squares, thanks.
Mariah goes for Klee
Elder Moore votes against Manet.
Klee, with great affection and respect.
The onslaught continues: Klee
Klee for me
I would've thought I'd have preferred Manet, but in reality it turns out to be Klee.
Klee lays a real late-tournament beating on Manet, who only puts together two votes against Klee's ten.
