The Infinite Art Tournament Left Bracket Second-Round Elimination: Vigée Le Brun v. de Vlaminck!

As far as French Baroque painter Simon Vouet is concerned, the only good thing about today's match is that it's going to eliminate one of the two guys who knocked him out of the Tournament. That's why they call it elimination! Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun is hot off of two big wins after losing her opener to M.C. Escher, whereas Maurice de Vlaminck is back on his feet after a Second Round loss to... M.C. Escher. Probably, that means that Escher would have beaten Vouet. But that's not the match we're going to enjoy! We're going to enjoy the match of Vigée Le Brun v. de Vlaminck. Cast your votes!

Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun

Maurice de Vlaminck

  1. I'm enchanted by Maurice de Vlaminck's colors and I think Vigée Le Brun lacks depth. So, a vote for de Vlaminck.

  3. Le Brun. Not powerful, but restful.

  4. Mariah says "De V, re boats and color, and because the skewed POV of le Brun is maddening (that whole mirror thing). The psychologist/scientist weighs in most heavily in this particular match-up . . '"

  5. I kind of wish they would become close friends and influence each other into a range of awesomeness. I like 'em both, and I think I'll land on... Vigée Le Brun.

  6. Oh, definitely Le Brun. I had trouble with the mirror also, but I finally just decided it was a model holding a portrait of herself. And how charming!

  7. I checked back with the unusually absent Susan, who reports "I just looked at Vigee Le Brun & Vlaminck. I'm sure I failed to vote because I couldn't decide, & meant to go back. I still find it one of the most difficult of all the votes. I guess I'll mess up & say I like both artists so much I just can't vote for one or the other."

  8. So, Vigee le Brun captured the last three votes, but that didn't quite get her back from a 6-2 deficit, and it's Vlaminck who will continue the leftward journey to take on Waterhouse next weekend!
