The Infinite Art Tournament, Round Four: Schwitters v. Sheeler!

Welcome to June! It's an even-numbered month, so here's a Fourth Round match.  This one is between two of those newfangled "modern" artists, by which we mean artists from the generation of my great-grandfathers.

Kurt Schwitters
1887 - 1948
German
  • Beat fifteenth century German Martin Schongauer easily in Round 1.
  • Defeated Jan van Scorel in Round 2.
  • Beat Egon Schiele in Round 3 by a two-vote swing. YOUR VOTE COUNTS!!!

Charles Sheeler
1883 - 1965
American
  • Beat Cindy Sherman in in Round 1.
  • Defeated Jan Siberechts easily in Round 2.
  • Beat Georges Seurat in Round 3 by a two-vote margin. YOUR VOTE COUNTS!!!

Vote for the artist of your choice in the comments, or any other way that works for you. Commentary and links to additional work are welcome. Fourth-round matches are open for at least three months after posting.

  1. I quite like both these artists, but have to go with Schwitters.

  2. I was almost swayed, but Sheeler.
It's one thing to have a style, but another to let it get stale.

  3. Schwitters, I think. I've been kind of underwhelmed by Sheeler when I see 'em in the field.

  4. It's Sheeler without much trouble here, taking the match nine votes to three. Schwitters is still with us though. He'll eventually take on somebody in the Left Bracket Fourth Round. It will take a while to sort out who his opponent will be, though.

Voting in the Infinite Art Tournament? Awesome. And, please be aware that purely anonymous votes are not counted. You don't need to log in or use your real name, but you must identify yourself in some fashion for your vote to count.
