The Infinite Art Tournament, Left Bracket Second Round: van Ruisdael v. Savery!

In this contest, we have one artist who just skunked an opponent 9-0, and another who got skunked 0-12.  I guess this is where we find out how important momentum is!

Jacob van Ruisdael
1628 - 1682
Dutch

Thumped by Rachel Ruysch in Round 1.
Took all the votes in First Round Elimination against Robert Ryman.

Roelandt Savery
1576 - 1639
Dutch

Defeated Sassetta in Round 1.
Skunked by John Singer Sargent in Round 2.

Vote for the artist of your choice in the comments, or any other way that works for you. Commentary and links to additional work are welcome. Polls open for at least one month past posting, but likely much longer.

  1. Van Ruisdael for the new one. Bleak sunlight on old sheds? Crypts, maybe?

  3. Tough call, but Ruisdael's art might just be a little too dour for me. Savery.

  4. Well, I think their record says a lot more about their recent opponents than it does about van Ruisdael and Savery. But here's another vote for van Ruisdael to keep his momentum.

  5. Savery, although I like both about equally.

  7. Mr. van Ruisdael takes this one in a close contest, with six votes against Savery's five. He'll continue on in the left bracket; Savery can return to his career as a semi-famous painter of the Dutch Golden Age.
