I’ve tended to dismiss Pat Metheny as veering way too close to easy listening. That still might be the case, but I’ve warmed to him a little bit recently. There’s something there. There’s enough there to beat Abby Lincoln, anyway.

I’ve listened to this one a lot. Abby Lincoln wouldn’t here if many people didn’t consider her a great singer, and I wanted to say something more intelligent than “Her singing is, to me, a godawful racket.” Alas, I can’t.
Pat Metheny in an easy decision over Abbey Lincoln.
