The Semi-Finals: Chardin v. Cassatt!

"Semifinals" designates the Fourth to Seventh Rounds of the Infinite Art Tournament.  This is a Left Bracket Fourth Round Match between Jean-Baptiste-Siméon Chardin (4-1, 38-24, .613) and Mary Cassatt (3-1, 36-22, .621). Leaving the Tournament after falling to Chardin 7-9 is Joseph Cornell (3-2, 42-26). Cornell's "batting average" of .618 puts him at third place among the 216 artists who have left the Tournament. He replaces Alma-Tadema in that spot, behind only Antonello da Messina and Boccioni.

Chardin. It's very close, though.

Kind of an apples to apples match, at least subject matter wise. I'll slightly lean Chardin.

I lean toward Mary Cassatt.

Tough one. My first thought was that Cassatt had it in the bag, but on reflection I think Chardin and his bubble-boy have done it for me again.

Susan says "Cassatt. This is really a tie for me, so I will vote for the woman." Don't know if she wanted me to pass along that second part...

Cassatt, I think.

Two sentimental favorites of mine. I'll go with Cassatt. There's just something about Mary.

Cassatt. I'm not sure whether it's because I've been influenced by The Toast or not, though.

And it's Cassatt taking this one, with eight votes to Chardin's three! She'll take on Cezanne next week in the tough, tough bracket of artists whose names begin with "C"!
