The Infinite Art Tournament, Round FOUR: Krøyer v. de La Tour!


It's the first weekend of October, and our Fourth Round match features a rare Danish entry against an early representative of art powerhouse France.  Both of these guys barely squeaked by their Third Round opponents -- but who will squeak his way into the Fifth Round?  Let's find out.

Danish

  • Thumped Leon Kossoff in Round 1.
  • Crushed American Jeff Koons, albeit with gentle lyricism, in Round 2.
  • On recount, was found to have beaten Florentine master Domenico Ghirlandaio in Round 3 by a two-vote swing. YOUR VOTE COUNTS!!!






Georges de La Tour
1593 - 1652
French
  • Trounced Peter Lanyon in Round 1.
  • Walloped animal specialist Sir Edwin Landseer in Round 2.
  • Overcame the Czech abstract painter Frantisek Kupka in Round 3, but only by a single vote. YOUR VOTE COUNTS!!!

    Hmmm, I like them both. But beaches can get boring after awhile, so I'm going with de La Tour.

    Kroyer today, despite the fact that I want to see a chart of exactly how he thinks that pattern of footsteps on the beach could've been made. This includes the footsteps behind the women whose dresses are sweeping the damp sand, or should be, since they're not holding them up. But I hope de la Tour's feelings aren't hurt because I like him a lot as well.

    When I looked at these paintings to count the votes, I was wowed by Krøyer and aghast that I had voted for boring old de La Tour in a close match. (I can't change a vote at countin' time. Rules is rules.) So, I was happy to see that I lost this one, with Krøyer's seven votes beating my own vote plus five others. De La Tour, who isn't really boring, will have another shot against the winner of Banksy/Klimpt. I'll vote for him either way, and this time I'll mean it!
