Hmm, normally I would say Magritte without really thinking about it much. But the last round got me thinking about he is rather gimmicky. Even so I am inclined to say Magritte. But after looking at examples of both, I've been swayed to Goldsworthy.
Tough - I like both. But Goldsworthy.

Goldsworthy, though I prefer his more permanent pieces.

The Human Condition
I like Magritte, but I have to say his work fits somewhere between New Yorker covers and Pink Floyd posters in my mental map--that is, it's immediately appealing but kind of a one-liner, and also difficult to see as if for the first time. I am a fan of Andy Goldsworthy, who has my vote. Arguably, he too suffers from overexposure. But I would put him at the top of the stack in any number of categories--land art, minimalism, environmental installation, nature photography. My sense of what he does is pretty heavily indebted to the 2001 documentary Rivers and Tides. I like that he conveys a sense of the monumental in ephemera, and a sense of the ephemeral in monuments.
Magritte, I think. I've been taking a very close look at Goldsworthy because other people seem to really like his stuff, but I haven't found myself deeply moved by any of his pieces. At most, they make me shrug and say "eh, that's pretty neat." Which is all fine, of course, but not really Winner's Bracket Round 3 level.
