Aw man, I like Haeckel, but I have to say Marc.
Susan writes in: "they are so different & I like them both very much. But Marc because I do so love his horses."
I'll take Marc, though of course I think Haeckel is wonderful. I'd privilege art over illustration, but it's not just that. Marc takes what I like about Delaunay's color and what I love about Feininger's prismatic effects, and transforms animals into fable. In my mind, no one but Chagall or Klee could match that sense of innocence and wonder.
Hoo boy, this is a really tough one. I really like Marc's cubistish Fox, and that little vixen is going to steal my vote away.
