Vote for the two artists of your choice! Votes generally go in the comments, but have been known to arrive by email, by postcard, or in a sealed envelope.

Please note that you may vote only once in each face-off.  Opining that both of the artists in one of the two face-offs is superior to the other is fine, but casting your votes for two artists in the same face-off is not permissible.

  1. I think I'll go for Lely's sardonic satin precision this time, and Lichtenstein.

  2. Heckel, DeWitt, but not too crazy about any.

  3. I realize he's kind of ridiculous, but I kinda like Lichtenstein. The overly dramatic lone cartoon panels, without a past or future, tickle my absurdity bone. I even sort of like his redoes of the masters; like where he does a Van Gogh in bright colors with Ben-Day Dots with no abstraction. I don't think they're great works of art, but they kind of give me a better idea of what I like about Van Gogh paintings. He also makes me wonder why comic books look the way they do. Or what it would be like if Van Gogh drew for comics. ... He makes me think, but not too much.

He wouldn't get my vote against most of the tough competition in this tourney, but I'll give him the nod over Sol "The Container Store" LeWitt. And Heckel gets my vote for his woodcuts.

  4. I'll back Sol LeWitt over Lichtenstein any day of the week. I am especially fond of his wall drawings, for their spirit of inquiry and, hmmm, inclusiveness? And I'll take Heckel over Lely.

  5. It's a shame that my man Sol LeWitt can't show to good advantage in a blog contest, and that Mr. SundayFunnies comes off so well. But LeWitt, of course. And then, for the upper pair, I'll take Heckel.

  6. Um... Lely and, um.... LeWitt.

  7. And that's that for these matches. Sorry, you were too late. The final tally was Heckel over Lely, 6-5, and LeWitt over Lichtenstein, 8-3.
