The Infinite Art Tournament, First Elimination Round #32/64

With this pair of matches, the so-called Infinite Art Tournament is halfway through the First Round Elimination brackets.

Tied with John Constable in his initial Round 1 outing, in September 2012.
Lost to beachcomber Andres Amador in a second try at Round 1.

-----

Wilfredo Lam

Cuban; worked in France

Lost to Frantisek Kupka in Round 1.

Faceoff #2: Lancret v. Lanyon

Nicolas Lancret
1690 - 1743
French

Lost to the beasts of Sir Edwin Landseer in Round 1.

-----

Peter Lanyon
1918 - 1964
British

Pounded by Georges de La Tour in Round 1.

Vote for the two artists of your choice! Votes generally go in the comments, but have been known to arrive by email, by postcard, or in a sealed envelope.

Please note that you may vote only once in each face-off.  Opining that both of the artists in one of the two face-offs is superior to the other is fine, but casting your votes for two artists in the same face-off is not permissible.

  1. Cole, and Lanyon (mostly for the first of his paintings - the second one is, in art historical terms, blecchhhh.

  2. Everyone on top over everyone on the bottom.

My votes go to Lam and Lancret.

  3. I agree with Morgan, but I guess I'll have to pick Lam and Lanyon.

  4. Okay, Michael, you really might need to bend the rules on this one. Neither Lam or Cole deserve to go out this early! Especially Lam, who gets my vote. And I guess Lancret.

  5. Our habitual email voter says " I always love being able to cast another vote for COLE. And also Lancret."

  6. Yep, I'll go with Cole and Lanyon, though I'll miss Cuba's Cubist.

  7. I'd like both of the top two to advance, dang it, and can't really choose between them. And Lanyon.

  8. Well, it's a tough break for Lam to smack into Tom Cole in First Round Elimination. I would have expected Lam to trounce on the beach-rake guy here, and be poised for an easy win against Landseer. But that's not the way the votes fail, and now we are probably rolling down rails towards an eventual Cole/Amador GRUDGE MATCH, which will be fun. But there I go counting votes before they're hatched.

Here's what we've got: Cole over Lam, 8-4, and Lanyon over Lancret, 9-4. "Bend the rules," Chuckdaddy? Nonsense. You and me both would feel dirty for the remainder of the enterprise, and you know it.

Voting in the Infinite Art Tournament? Awesome. And, please be aware that purely anonymous votes are not counted. You don't need to log in or use your real name, but you must identify yourself in some fashion for your vote to count.
