The Infinite Art Tournament Left Bracket Third-Round Elimination: Chardin v. Cornell!

The letter C represents some of the biggest names in art, and today's Third Round Elimination match pits some of the survivors of a bracket cluster in which even artists like Marc Chagall, Christo, Claude Lorraine, and Giorgio de Chirico could not get any traction.

Joseph Cornell and Jean-Baptiste-Simeon Chardin both won their first two matches before falling in the Third Round.  Arriving in the Left Bracket, both of them won their fourth match by the same vote, 7 to 5.  Cornell beat Philippe de Champaigne, who leaves us with a record of 3-2 (31 vf - 33 va).  Pieter Claesz  fell to Chardin after also running up a record of 3-2 (35 vf - 31 va).

  1. Cornell for me as well, though I like Chardin too.

  2. Chardin. I love the way he captures the metallic nature of the cup in the still life.

  3. Strangely enough, I find myself voting for Chardin, but still kind of rooting for Cornell. Chardin's pasteliciousness just grows on me more and more each round.

  4. Cornell and Chardin, the soap bubble twins! They do have something delicate and wistful in common. I vote Cornell.

  5. Oh, Chardin. I like the state of mind that Joseph Cornell signifies, but I'm never sure that he quite fits in his own shoes.

  6. Call me crazy, but I'm feeling a but contrary today. Cornell.

  7. You know what I don't think I ever mentioned? That Chardin won this match a while back, nine to seven. That's a real knock-down drag-out by our standards!
