The Infinite Art Tournament, Left Bracket Third Round: Bellows v. Brown!

George Bellows is back in action for a sixth match, taking on Ford Madox Brown for a shot at the semifinals.  Brown's most recent match was a loss to Pieter Bruegel -- no shame in that -- while Bellows got here by virtue of knocking out François Boucher (2-2; 18-30)Bellows and Brown haven't faced any of the same competition in previous matches, so there's nothing to be done but let the match begin and see how the voting goes!

  1. It's not often that you see a sheep with a tail. This is tough, but I'm going with Brown.

  2. Wow. A guy I've voted for every time versus a guy who I've always voted against. I'm starting to feel like I should watch my strong opinions a bit, since a year later I sometimes flip. But I think I can say with conviction that I'm a much bigger fan of Bellows than the weirdly glowing people of Foxy Brown.

  5. A vote sent through the mails says "Brown -- I might have voted for Bellows if you hadn't shown so many prizefights. He painted some great winter landscapes of the NYC area."

  6. Shoot, am I too late?! One more for Bellows.

  7. I like Brown, but I think a fair fight goes to Bellows.

  8. Brown, partly because of the subject matter. I'd rather see Eakins's boxers than Bellows's, and as for the crowd shots, they lack the specificity that makes me love the Dutch crowds.
I mean, I really like Brown on his ownm, but I just don't get the attraction of Bellows.

  9. These guys are both amazing. But I'm giving it to Bellows on points.
