Ghirlandaio. Voting for 15th-century weirdness over 20th-century.
Hausmann! 20th century weirdness over 15th!
I'll also vote for Hausmann, but more because of a preference for Austrian weirdness over Italian weirdness.
Hausmann. I'm a sucker for Dada. And I've long had a thing for the first one, "The Mechanical Head (The Spirit of Our Time)". Is it about thought control? Is it about artificial intelligence, "mechanical brains"? Is it about standardized tests? Wikipedia has a quote saying it is "an aggressively Marxist reversal of Hegel".
My default view of most Dada is that it is *absurd*. My favorite kind of surd.
Although I like the first guy's painting of the little girl looking at her grandpa's nose that looks just like a pickle, I'm going to hand it to the 2nd artist because I like trippy-ass shit like that.
OK, I do like Hausmann's mechanical head, but I think the photomontage work is, um, a little juvenile? Oh, right, it's Dada, so it's supposed to be...I am solidly behind Ghirlandaio in this one.
Ghirlandaio
Hausmann
I'm gonna go Ghirlandaio, because I like 'em both, but Ghirlandaio isn't the one with a piece mocking art critics.
Ghirlandaio
Dada is much more interesting to me in theory than practice.
Ghirlandaio all the way. Amazing and my new favorite artist I never would have known about otherwise.
Yay! Ghirlandaio! I love the humanity of the first.
Here's a emailed vote for Ghirlandaio.
Ghirlandaio. I love me a good hair shirt painting ( I assume that's what that is?). If they were all sculptures like the head I'd have gone the other way, but
Ghirlandaio is strong and I expect him to go far.
Ghirlandaio takes it 9-5 on his second go-around. He'll take on Kokoschka this week in Round Two.
