Hogarth and Holbein
Beauneveu, with hopes that he makes it far in the left bracket! Honthorst gets my vote too!
I like the illuminated texts of Beauneveu and the "Heh-heh... Butt..." of van Honthorst.
I agree with Ben and Morgan.
A strong vote for the glowering Holbein portraits over the excessively chipper van Honthorst's. The other matchup is a trickier one for me, and I'll come slightly down on the side of the raucous social commentary of Hogarth.
But wait a second. What's going on in that snow globe?
You know, there is oodles to admire in Hogarth. I find I just don't LIKE him very much. Too much the didactic illustrator, I think. Whereas Beauneveu--OK, I just really love that period, and the integration of art into books and buildings and whatnot. And, though I voted for Remedios Varo against him in the last round, now I am struck by the idea that his little saintly vignettes seem ready to float off into a Remedios Varo painting. Or something.
The second contest is much easier. I really, really like Holbein. Van Honthorst--worthy I'm sure, but at the more irritatingly cartoonish end of the Dutch spectrum.

And these Elimination contests wind up with twin 6-5 decisions. Beauneveu beats Hogath, and van Honthorst stuns Hans Holbein, who becomes one of the best known artists to have gone two-and-out.
Oh, the fifth vote for Holbein was me, when I made up my mind.
