Vote for the two artists of your choice! Votes generally go in the comments, but have been known to arrive by email, by postcard, or in a sealed envelope.

Please note that you may vote only once in each face-off.  Opining that both of the artists in one of the two face-offs is superior to the other is fine, but casting your votes for two artists in the same face-off is not permissible.

  1. Beauneveu, with hopes that he makes it far in the left bracket! Honthorst gets my vote too!

  2. I like the illuminated texts of Beauneveu and the "Heh-heh... Butt..." of van Honthorst.

  3. A strong vote for the glowering Holbein portraits over the excessively chipper van Honthorst's. The other matchup is a trickier one for me, and I'll come slightly down on the side of the raucous social commentary of Hogarth.

But wait a second. What's going on in that snow globe?

  4. You know, there is oodles to admire in Hogarth. I find I just don't LIKE him very much. Too much the didactic illustrator, I think. Whereas Beauneveu--OK, I just really love that period, and the integration of art into books and buildings and whatnot. And, though I voted for Remedios Varo against him in the last round, now I am struck by the idea that his little saintly vignettes seem ready to float off into a Remedios Varo painting. Or something.

The second contest is much easier. I really, really like Holbein. Van Honthorst--worthy I'm sure, but at the more irritatingly cartoonish end of the Dutch spectrum.

  5. Beauneveu for sure. And damned if I'm not van... hmmm... OK, I'm not sure about the second one.

  7. Ooh, toughies! Holgarth and...
    Holbein.
    No, van Honthorst.
    No, Holbein.
    No, van Honthorst.
    Yeah, van Honthorst.

  8. And these Elimination contests wind up with twin 6-5 decisions. Beauneveu beats Hogath, and van Honthorst stuns Hans Holbein, who becomes one of the best known artists to have gone two-and-out.

  9. Oh, the fifth vote for Holbein was me, when I made up my mind.

Voting in the Infinite Art Tournament? Awesome. And, please be aware that purely anonymous votes are not counted. You don't need to log in or use your real name, but you must identify yourself in some fashion for your vote to count.
