The Infinite Art Tournament, Left Bracket Second Round TIEBREAK: Böcklin v. Van Dyck!

Van Dyck and Van Dongen fought to a 6-6 tie, which leaves Dossi and Dubuffet hanging briefly in bracket limbo.  So, Van Dyck faces off today against Arnold Böcklin, who has been waiting to resolve the second of his own 6-6 ties.  Next week, Van Dongen will take on Daniel Buren.

Arnold Böcklin
1827 - 1901
German; worked in Italy

Sir Anthony Van Dyck
1599 - 1641
Dutch; worked in Britain

  1. Voting for Böcklin - that first painting is creepilicious.

  2. Not only 4 straight votes for Bocklin, but 4 straight votes for Bocklin including an umlaut. You have an impressive crowd here, Michael!

But I'm going to simultaneously break the umlaut and Bocklin streak. Between his drabness and his ties, I'm tired of the Bocklinater. Come on Van Dyck, put Bocklin out of his misery!

  3. I'll take Van Dyck in this race, and not just because I'm an incompetent slob about umlauts. I actually like Bocklin's whole moody Isle of the Dead thing, but not as much as Van Dyck's portraits.

  4. By email: "a vote for Bocklin. 'Isle of the Dead' is so much better in reality than reproduction."

  5. Umlauted Böcklin survives his second tie-breaker. In his first match that didn't hang on the final vote, he gets by Van Dyck 8-4 and continues his arduous trek leftward through the brackets.
