Vote for the two artists of your choice! Votes generally go in the comments, but have been known to arrive by email, by postcard, or in a sealed envelope.

Please note that you may vote only once in each face-off.  Opining that both of the artists in one of the two face-offs is superior to the other is fine, but casting your votes for two artists in the same face-off is not permissible.

  1. Ah man, I feel like Gozzoli deserves better than going 2 and out, but I'll be voting the van ticket as well.

  2. I feel like Gorky's paintings are almost brilliant, but not quite. Instead I don't really like the paintings. So I'll vote for van der Goes on top.

On the bottom, certainly van Goyen. Wow! Although I did enjoy the first Gozzoli quite a bit.

Both of the bottom over both of the top, if I could, but I can't.

  5. I'm going with van der Goes and Gozzoli. The van Goyens are lovely, but I like how I'm drawn into the narrative of Gozzoli's scenes, whereas the Dutch landscapes keep me at a distance. I agree with Morgan on Gorky--his paintings don't quite coalesce for me, either.

  6. Huh, the first two, which do I dislike less? Gorky, I guess. The second two, ack, which do I like more? I like the Salome one for reasons mentioned the last time around, but I guess I like van Goyen more.

  8. For me, a slam dunk for van der Goes. THOSE SHEPHERDS!!! THEY ARE SO HUMAN!

Then, van Goyen and Dutch landscapes and emotional distance! Yay! Gozzoli is important and experimenting with new ideas, but I can't stop seeing the results as stilted and stiff, although I like the surreality too.

  9. Oh, and Gozzoli. I forgot there were two pairings here.

  10. All right, time for some elimination! It looks like van der Goes has trounced Gorky, 10-2, and than van Goyen has edged out Gozzolli by a swing vote, 7-5. YOUR VOTE COUNTS!
