Oh, poop! Yikes! Damn!

Both of them! How can I choose between a stripe-knickered guitar tuner and some really attractive portrayals of light?

I'm going to have to think about this ...

Okay, Atkinson Grimshaw. I like them both equally in completely different ways, so I have chosen this round by the artist's name I find more amusing to say out loud. Atkinson Grimshaw Atkinson Grimshaw Atkinson Grimshaw.

Wow, I've never seen a pigeon-fancying guitarist with such alarming posture! I'm with Greuze in this one.

Grimshaw! Man does he do night well. His paintings are eerie and surreal while also feeling very realistic. I hope Grimshaw goes far in this tournament (And that someone talks to Greuze's 1st portrait person about his posture).

Aw, both? Ok, fine, Grimshaw.

Give me the second guy in a landslide. Those are some haunting cityscapes. The first guy has VERY creepy subjects. Those men look like they would be on pedophile lists, if they had them in the 1400's, or whatever. Weirdest looking faces ever on those guys. Very hard to look them in the eyes. Yuck.

2nd painter all the way in this one.

At first I thought Greuze was an easy vote, with his use of lighting and interesting subject matter. But then I saw the first Grimshaw, and the depth and detail present even with the simplicity in color and concept blew me away. A vote for Grimshaw, with a nod towards Greuze, who I am sure will do quite nicely for himself in the left bracket.

I am interested by the "candid photo" quality of the Greuze paintings--the subjects seem to be captured doing preparatory tasks, like tuning the mandolin(?), and... well, I don't know what the 2nd guy is doing.

Interesting as that is, though, I'm going to have to vote for Grimshaw, because I'd much rather look at his paintings.

Grimshaw, basically for the same reasons that Morgan gave.

Here's a vote from the emails: "I never heard of Grimshaw but I like him very much & am voting for him -- no tie for me."

It's gotta be Greuze.

I guess I'm alone in feeling that Grimshaw is just a bit too much like an early Thomas Kinkade? (I have to admit, though, that I'm saying that a little disingenuously just because I want to vote for Greuze anyhow. I actually do like the Grimshaw ones--I just figured that somebody more sophisticated than I am would've picked on them more for being too emotionally manipulative with all the moonlight.)

After some initial hesitation, this one turned into the Grimshaw steamroller. He crushed Grueze 10-3, with me abstaining.
