Thumped on 15th century French guy Nicolas Froment in Round 1.

Ah well, as much as I like Gabo, I like Caspar more. The Sea of Ice one, damn! The force of nature in those giant ice shards, yet they stand like a tombstone or cairn over the ship wreck, somehow eternal and restless at the same time. Amazing.
I voted for Friedrich the first time, having been quite impressed with the sheets of ice, and the goth sensibilities of the old churchyard. I am less impressed with today's header, "I Lost My Contact Lens There ... No, Over There" and find Naum Gabo's mathematical artistry much more appealing. Plus I think we need more sculpture in the mix right now. So Gabo.
What a matchup! I'll vote Gabo; I think it's the first time I've voted sculpture against even a halfway decent painter opponent, and Friedrich is great.
I guess as the rounds progress, this pattern is inevitably going to become even more familiar: not "I like a; I don't like b" but "I like b; I like a even more."
Mr. Friedrich outlasts Gabo in the voting, and ends up winning with a decisive 11-3 margin. He'll take on Fragonard later this week... but we haven't seen the last of Gabo.
Voting in the Infinite Art Tournament? Awesome. And, please be aware that purely anonymous votes are not counted. You don't need to log in or use your real name, but you must identify yourself in some fashion for your vote to count.

ReplyDeleteFriedrich, but I really like both.

ReplyDeleteI like Gabo, and I'm going with Friedrich.
Friedrich!

ReplyDeleteI really like both of these--if there was seeding they would have met in a much later round, I'd bet. I'm going to go with... Friedrich this time!
ReplyDeleteTough one. I'll go with the gut: Friedrich.
ReplyDeleteFriedrich over Gabo.
ReplyDeleteAnother tough one - I think I'll go with Gabo, but wouldn't be crushed if Mr. F won.

Friedrich, baby!
ReplyDeleteHere we have a postcard vote for Friedrich.
