Ah well, as much as I like Gabo, I like Caspar more. The Sea of Ice one, damn! The force of nature in those giant ice shards, yet they stand like a tombstone or cairn over the ship wreck, somehow eternal and restless at the same time. Amazing.
I voted for Friedrich the first time, having been quite impressed with the sheets of ice, and the goth sensibilities of the old churchyard. I am less impressed with today's header, "I Lost My Contact Lens There ... No, Over There" and find Naum Gabo's mathematical artistry much more appealing. Plus I think we need more sculpture in the mix right now. So Gabo.
Friedrich
What a matchup! I'll vote Gabo; I think it's the first time I've voted sculpture against even a halfway decent painter opponent, and Friedrich is great.
Friedrich, but I really like both.
I guess as the rounds progress, this pattern is inevitably going to become even more familiar: not "I like a; I don't like b" but "I like b; I like a even more."
I like Gabo, and I'm going with Friedrich.
Friedrich!
Caspar
I really like both of these--if there was seeding they would have met in a much later round, I'd bet. I'm going to go with... Friedrich this time!
Tough one. I'll go with the gut: Friedrich.
Friedrich over Gabo.
Another tough one - I think I'll go with Gabo, but wouldn't be crushed if Mr. F won.

Friedrich, baby!
Here we have a postcard vote for Friedrich.
Mr. Friedrich outlasts Gabo in the voting, and ends up winning with a decisive 11-3 margin. He'll take on Fragonard later this week... but we haven't seen the last of Gabo.
Thanks for voting!
