The Infinite Art Tournament, First Elimination Round #17/64
Faceoff #1: Elsheimer v. Epstein
Adam Elsheimer
1578 - 1610
German; worked in Italy
Pounded by Eakins in Round 1.
-----
Sir Jacob Epstein
1880 - 1959
American; worked in Britain
Blew a big lead over James Ensor to lose in Round 1 by a two-vote swing. Your vote counts!!!
Faceoff #2: Ernst v. Etty
Max Ernst
1891 - 1976
German
Lost to Richard Estes in Round 1.
-----
William Etty
1787 - 1849
English
Made Jan Van Eyck nervous before losing by a two-vote swing in Round 1. YOUR VOTE COUNTS!
Vote for the two artists of your choice! Votes generally go in the comments, but have been known to arrive by email, by postcard, or in a sealed envelope.
Please note that you may vote only once in each face-off. Opining that both of the artists in one of the two face-offs is superior to the other is fine, but casting your votes for two artists in the same face-off is not permissible.

Oh this is easy for me. Elsheimer and Ernst. I like weird.
Epstein and Ernst
Epstein and Ernst
Epstein and Etty, where the second was close and the first wasn't.
Elsheimer and Ernst
Epstein - awesome
Etty - that guy sure did like his nudes!

Epstein and Ernst.
Hmm.... I'm gonna vote the pfly ticket: "Elsheimer and Ernst. I like weird."
...and here's a postcard voting the pfly ticket, Elsheimer/Ernst, presumably liking weird.
Elsheimer/Etty
Elsheimer and Etty. I wish I knew morre about why other people are picking Ernst, though!
After being behind by as many as four votes, Elsheimer puts on a strong finish and ends up tied with Epstein, 7-7. This will throw the match into tiebreak mode.
Ernst/Etty will remain open for voting until that tie is resolved.
No one having come along to vote in the intervening two years and change, Ernst/Etty is now resolved: Ernst got nine votes, and Etty got five. Ernst will return to the fray! But Etty won't.
