  1. Claesz I think today, though I am fond of smirky bird girl.

  2. I like Copley's paintings quite a lot--especially his kids with animals. When you factor in the colonial bumpkin origins, he stands out as singularly talented. I'll take his people over Claesz's exquisitely glum tablescapes.

  3. I like Copley a lot - especially the smug young lady painting which I find oddly compelling. However, Claesz's still-lifes are both interesting to look at and masterfully crafted and his macabre take on the genre gets him my vote.

  4. Claesz, though I think he should perhaps lay off the opium.

  5. After a little wavering, I'm going to stick with the grim still deaths of Mr. Claesz.

  6. The paintings here don't tip me too much either way, but when I looked for more images on the artists, Copley won me over pretty easily.

  7. Claesz wins this one running away, with a final score of 8 votes to 2. He'll take on Clouet for the honor of facing Chardin in the Third Round; Copley leaves the Tournament with his head held high.
