The Infinite Art Tournament, First Elimination Round #14/64

Faceoff #1: G. David v. Davis

Gerard David
c.1455 - 1523
Dutch

Lost to Honoré Daumier in Round 1.

-----

Stuart Davis
1894 - 1964
American

Did all right against Jacques-Louis David in Round 1.

Faceoff #2: Deacon v. Delauney

Richard Deacon
b. 1949
British

Drew a tough seed opposite Edgar Degas in Round 1.

-----

Robert Delaunay
1885 - 1941
French

Lost to Eugène Delacroix by a two-vote swing in Round 1.  YOUR VOTE COUNTS!!!

Vote for the two artists of your choice! Votes generally go in the comments, but have been known to arrive by email, by postcard, or in a sealed envelope.

Please note that you may vote only once in each face-off.  Opining that both of the artists in one of the two face-offs is superior to the other is fine, but casting your votes for two artists in the same face-off is not permissible.

Well, although I like a lot of artists with styles similar to Stuart Davis, Davis never really did it for me. It's like he's got the feel of late Kandinsky without the zing, or something. And I like the calm yet cluttered look of the Gerard David examples here, so, David.

In the second case, Robert Delaunay *does* work for me, in a kind of Klee-like way, or something.

A vote-by-email for the colorful ones, Davis and Delaunay.

And, possibly influenced by pfly, I'm going G. David and Delauney. It don't mean a late Kandinsky thing, if it ain't go that late Kandinsky zing.

Well! It looks like David takes the top match 8 to 3, and Delauney squeaks by in the lower match, 6 to 5, as this set of brackets begins to move again. Thanks for voting last year!
