Phase One Rules:
- You may cast votes for up to four artists.
- One vote per artist per person.
- Since play-in artists were nominated by your peers in the IAT community, including myself, courteous and affirmative voting is in order
- Which is to say, no baggin' on the aesthetic sensibilities of the nominators.
- Full rules, procedures, and anticipated timeline for the Play-In SubTournament are available on the Play-In SubTournament page.
Phase 1, Flight 5 will be open until noon PST, Saturday, January 26th.

1 Giger
2 Mobassa - if only for that 'Temptation' one!
3 Timothy Ely - nifty
4 Andres Amador - !!

I seem to agree with my wife on this one -
Ely
Lasserre
Cave
Amador
Ely in an easy first place, followed by Mobassa, Cave, and Giger

Amador
Giger

Lasserre
Charles
OK, I've been Googling some of these cool artists I've never heard of, (because how else will I make up my mind?) and it's "Reg Mombassa." Rog Mobassa, of course, now exists, but as a pseudo-pseudonymic entity created by the IAT.
Good round!
I will go with:
Ely
Lassere
Giger*
and...
Cave. Though I really like Amador also.
*Giger's work gets (and perhaps also loses) points for being an instantly recognizable mass-culture artifact. Because when we saw Prometheus last summer, I was, like, man, that looks just like the old Brain Salad Surgery album cover...
It is an interesting round in that it is a Round of the Living: chance has given us a selection of artists who are all among the quick. Including Reg Mombassa, whose name has been repaired.
I had my vote ready to cast for Giger because his stuff is awesome and creepy, but then I saw the guy who did the nude girl and the unicorn taking a dip with demon perverts ready to strike, and yeah, that guy wins.
Cave
Amador
Charles
Mombassa
Dr. Noisewater: That's one for Vallejo, then. But you could vote for both if you like?
Lasserre
Cave
Amador
Ely
I'm going to vote the Jenners ticket: Ely running away, then Giger, then Lasserre, then Charles.
Sigh; I wanted to support the fantasy artist, but it's the same old oversexualization. Instead, I'll go with just Ely, Lasserre, and Amador.
Lasserre, Ely, Charles, Amador
A postal voter for Charles, Cave, Amador, and Vellejo.
Ely, Lasserre, Cave*, Amador.
*the artist
Giger
Ely
Lasserre
And it's really close between Vallejo and Amador, but I think I'm going to have to go with Amador.
Welcome back, Mr. X!
The big surprise in this flight, for me, was Mr. Giger's 5th place finish. That drops him out of the tournament, but as one of the most financially successful living artists on the planet I'm sure he'll find some kind of consolation somewhere.
Victory, instead, to three relative unknowns: Eastern Washington's own Timothy Ely takes a solid first, trailed by (shall we say) neo-surrealist Maskull Lasserre and Andres Amador, who apparently... scrapes patterns on the beach. You guys were really voting for Amador, right? Awesome. YOUR VOTES COUNT!
