I like Dove. But when you put his work against Dou's, it seems so light and sketchy it might float away. I'll take the luminous details of a fully rendered scene, and the Dutch mastery of Dou.
Dou for me, thanks. They are works of enormous skill and charm, but they also benefit from their age -- it makes them windows into our common humanity with those of many generations back.
And Dou's thrilling comeback run ends the contest in a tie! That will make Dove and Dou the final pair of artists to be pitted against the survivors of the play-in tournament. You'll see them again, in about a year.

ReplyDeleteBoth are rather nice in their own way, but Dove's use of color and shape is really aesthetically pleasing and almost calming in a way. I'll vote Dove!
