Leaving us this week with records of 1-2 are two twentieth century Europeans: Balthus (18 cumulative votes for, 19 against) and Francis Bacon (17-19). Bacon beat today's first contestant in Round One, but lost to our second contestant in Left Bracket Round Two. Does that mean that Baldung will trump Avercamp? Let's vote!
Hendrick Avercamp
1585-1634
Dutch
- Lost to Francis Bacon in Round 1.
- Clobbered Frank Auerbach in Left Bracket First-Round Elimination.
- Handily defeated 20th Century French painter Balthus in the Left Bracket Second Round.
Hans Baldung
c. 1484 - 1545
German
- Lost to Giacomo Balla in Round 1.
- Trounced Fra Bartolommeo in Left Bracket first round elimination.
- Beat Francis Bacon in Left Bracket Second Round by a single vote. YOUR VOTE COUNTS!!!
Vote for the artist of your choice in the comments, or any other way that works for you. Commentary and links to additional work are welcome. Polls open for at least one month past posting, but likely much longer.

The codpiece and all the frowny faces swing my vote towards Baldung here.
I like both, but I think I will swing to Avercamp.
Hans Baldung
Baldung! For some reason I really have it out for Avercamp.
I can't day I like either of them much, but I think I'll go with Baldung.
This tournament has made me a big fan of Avercamp, master of the ice-skating crowd scene
Hmmm...the Avercamps are pretty, but I'm going with Baldung.
Shifting artistic tastes have caused me to moderately dislike Baldung. I voted for him over Balla in the first round - something I probably wouldn't do now. That said, I really enjoy Avercamp, so he gets my vote.

A vote-by-mail for Avercamp: "I still love the skaters.
Oh no! I still love Avercamp, but this Baldung guy... I think Avercamp might've met his match. That is, technically, you've made them a match-up, so I guess they've met....
Okay, I just googled Baldung, and he gets my vote.

Uh oh, this could get ugly, but I haven't voted on this one and am fond enough of Avercamp that I need to.
Erk, just as I feared. It's a 7-7 tie, and it's all my fault. I guess we'll be looking for another tie-breaker down the line.
Voting is closed in this pairing.
