Phase One Rules:
- You may cast votes for up to four artists.
- One vote per artist per person.
- Since play-in artists were nominated by your peers in the IAT community, including myself, courteous and affirmative voting is in order
- Which is to say, no baggin' on the aesthetic sensibilities of the nominators.
- Full rules, procedures, and anticipated timeline for the Play-In SubTournament are available on the Play-In SubTournament page.
Additional Play-In artists may still be nominated on this post, on the Play-In SubTournament page, by email to InfiniteArtTournament at gmail, or by postcard. With some ongoing flux in the list, there is still space remaining for around a dozen more artists.
Phase 1, Flight 1 will be open for voting through Sunday, September 23.

It's interesting to see what comes up in these! I'm going for:
Eliasson
Fanzhi
Bagta
Banksy
In alphabetical order:
Bagta
Bansky
Bouguereau
Eliasson
Eliasson, Banksy, nevelson, and, after a google image search, a strong vote for the Fonz
I'm going to go with three: Bouguereau, who I would expect myself to hate, but I actually kind of love; Bagta, and Nevelson.
Eliasson, because I like to be able to immerse myself in large installations.
Bouguereau, because how pretty! Also, French.
And Banksy for the new, Bagta for the old.
Les jeux sont faits.
Eiasson
Fankzhi
Bougeureau
Nevelson: definitely. I grew up in Buffalo, whose Albright Knox art museum has some very ceni Nevelsons's.
ceni? I meant cool.
Nevelson
Banksy (if you haven't seen the Simpsons intro sequence he did a few years back, it's worth a trip to the Googlery).
Froud - because stuff that looks like it belongs in the AD&D Monster Manual doesn't get much artistic respect.
Eliasson.
I actually like all of these (except for the first Fanzhi, which gives me the creeps). Well-chosen!
And, if nominations are still possible (and if he hasn't already put in an appearance), how 'bout our Kutztown homeboy Keith Haring?
DrSchnell: Mr. Haring will be competing in Play-In Flight 5, currently scheduled for mid- to late- October 2012.
I'll go with Eliasson, Bagta, Bouguereau, and Nevelson. I do like that second one by Agnes Martin--it has such a homespun, meditative texture to it--though she hasn't yet gotten any love in this crowd.
Eliasson - Captivating
Martin- A sort of clean, soothing appeal
Bouguerau- Bonus points for painting humans well
Couldn't pick a fourth but I'm within tournament rules.
Very within rules, Mm! In fact, if you only really like one, two, or three, your vote is somewhat stronger if you don't pick another (three/two/one) for filler.
Fround -- nightmarish though!
Eliasson -- love the trees!
Bansky -- fun quirky and creative
Fanzhi -- a mite disturbing
Fround
Fanzhi
Bouguerau
New fans of Zeng Fanzhi may like to know his name is non-Englishified Chinese, with "Zeng" being his surname. So when you're discussing him with your arty friends at the cocktail party, you'll want to be calling him "Zeng" instead of "Fanzhi," as in "I find Zeng a mite disturbing, so I voted for him in the Infinite Art Tournament.
Froud, Bouguereau and Banksy although I think this is a much stronger selection than Flight 1.
We have here a vote-by-email for Eliasson, Bougereau, Banksy, and Nevelson.
Banksy, my nominee!
Bouguereau, a sentimental favorite.
Eliasson, for the fairy-tale woods,
And Nevelson because I have diverse and sophisticated artistic tastes that probably aren't predictable in any way, or limited to sentimental paintings, especially with dogs, though I have to admit that those get bonus points.
Voting is closed in this flight. Advancing to Phase 2 are:
1. Olafur Eliasson
2. Adolphe William Bouguereau
3. Banksy
With the rest of the lineup like so:
4. Louise Nevelson
5. (tie) Zeng Fanzhi
5. Bagta
7. Brian Froud
8. Agnes Martin
