Wow! This a surprisingly strong matchup. I'll go Caravaggio because of the really good lighting, but I expect either one will go far in their respective brackets.
I hope this doesn't make you lose any respect you might have had for my integrity, but, while most days I would sanely admit that Caravaggio is the better artist, I'm going to give my vote to Canova. Between the delightful Cupid and Psyche and the way he's handled the fabric on the mattress in the second one, I'm going to give him a vote of respect. Then I'll go vote for him some more in the so-called "left bracket."

ReplyDeleteAnonymous and Anonymous, you have to give an ID for your vote to count! I need to make that more clear somehow.
ReplyDeleteAnyhoo, Canova has some serious sculpting chops. But Caravaggio, natch.
And this pairing is closed for voting. Canova put up a spirited showing, but Caravaggio ran off with it in the end.
