Vote for the two artists of your choice! Votes generally go in the comments, but have been known to arrive by email, by postcard, or in a sealed envelope.

Please note that you may vote only once in each face-off.  Opining that both of the artists in one of the two face-offs is superior to the other is fine, but casting your votes for two artists in the same face-off is not permissible.

Bellotto and Beuys.

I liked Bellmer's second one, but after extensive research(Page 1 of Google images) it seems that's kind of an exception; most of his had the dolls or what looked like sketches out of a journal.

Look up Bueys' bio if you don't know it; he's a real kook! I wish you could've captured his performance piece where he was covered in honey and talking to a dead rabbit. I also found I could really relate to him. I mean, I too fabricated a story that after a paratrooper accident I was nursed back to health by nomadic Tatar herdsmen. Haven't we all at some level?

My current mood is looking for a certain liveliness and the abstract one's aren't doing it- Belloto and Bingham with extra points for the liveliness.

Having had the chance to see some Beuys in person recently, I will vote for Bellotto and Bingham.

That Beuys performance piece where he covered himself in honey and talked to a dead rabbit? I've never seen it, but Bosch made a painting of it.

Bellotto, Bingham

In the easiest matchup in my recent memory, Bellotto!

And Bingham, with the people who take their leashed black cat on a boat.

And Bellotto trounces Bellmer, 9-1, in the first of the pairings. He will go on to meet Bierstadt in the next round. Voting is still open in Beuys/Bingham.

I recently had the wonderful opportunity to visit the Museum of Modern Art, in New York City, where I was startled to round a corner and see Beuys' suit hanging on the wall. Like any work of art, and especially any three dimensional work of art (although they are all three-dimensional in some measure, of course), it improves upon personal acquaintance. In the present instance, I was impressed by the felt fabric of the suit, which would clearly not hold up to the wear and tear of, say, being worn by someone engaging in an hour's worth of the normal activities of daily life. This somehow made it much more interesting.

And, my vote remains with Bingham.

Bingham hardly needs my vote, though, as he thrashes Beuys 9-2. He'll advance to take on his countryman George Bellows in what is expected to be a greuling second round match!
