  1. Wow! Two power players. I enjoy Cassatt's brushwork and use of color, and I enjoy Castagno's intricate designs and general vibrancy as compared to Cassatt's more subdued paintings. I think the neat marble textures in the background of the Last Supper breaks the tie for me - my vote goes to Castagno, but bravo to Cassatt for an impressive showing.

  3. Even Dr. Ken don't go after the Last Supper. It's his scrupulously respectful nature showing.

We've got an emphatic vote for Cassatt arrived over the wires.

  4. The two examples here didn't wow me, but after looking at more, I like Mary Cassatt.

  6. Cassatt. People concentrating on string-work is good subject matter.

  7. Cassatt - I can't say that Impressionism is my thing, generally, but something about her work seems to be an exception.

  8. Another tough one, but i'm going for Cassatt. I love the impressionists, and I think she does a particularly good job with people... softens out all the rough edges, and makes everything feel a bit dreamy. But not so dreamy that it doesn't feel real.

  9. another tough one! I'm going with Castagno for the limby David on what seems to be a vase or cup.

  10. I agree with Morgan that this is a pretty high-level first round match. I'm going to tip for Cassatt for bringing color saturation to the impressionist table. Plus, Nichim has a point: concentrating on stringwork is a little more recognizable to me as human experience than exulting over the head-severing, for what that's worth.

The first painting reminds me a little of Jenners.

  11. Del Castagno! His David and Goliath is impressive, for me.

  12. Cassatt for me too - I had not seen any of her work before but I really like the first painting. It has a "caught unawares" quality..

  13. And that wraps up voting in this matchup, Cassatt running away with it 12-4.
