Bellows! He's a distant relation, and I gotta root for my folk. Also, I came face-to-ring with Bellows' boxers in New York (Whitney?), and felt the rush. It's about the only boxing I've ever been able to stomach, and perhaps most visceral because of it?
This match-up seemed so even that I deferred my decision until I had done some (casual) research. I really, really like Bellini. But I looked up George Bellows on Wikipedia, and now he's, like, one of my favorite American painters. So I was all set to vote for him! But then I took one last look at Bellini's St. Francis in Ecstasy--long a favorite of mine, and damned if I didn't change my mind again. I guess I'm just drawn to a crisp, radiant Renaissance landscape over a swirly, radiant, impressionist one. So Bellini for me. But I'm going to be keeping my eyes out for the Bellows dude in the future. Especially since he's one of Margaret's folks.
Here's an email vote for G. Bellini, "even though Bellows is an excellent NYC painter." The writer describes it as a "Bad Pairing," which I take to mean a "Good Pairing."
I'm going to do another Chuckdaddy Half-Flip here and change my vote from Bellini to neutral. It's not a "I don't like either one of 'em" neutral, though -- it's an "I honestly can't decide" neutral.
Oh, I never mentioned that it was Bellini, 10-5. Bellini is up against Bernini now, and Bellows will be taking on Bingham. These matchings aren't going to get any easier...
