Wow! It's hard to decide between the two, as I like them both for very different reasons. However, I'm voting for Bacon because even though I really enjoy the super-detailed Dutch works, I have never seen anything like the Bacon before, and the cardinal/ghost/too-much-Eucharistic-wine-hallucination is great, plus I love the squishy face guy. Though as with all of my votes, my decision is fluid and based on the whim of the moment, and who knows how these two will fare when matched against different artists.

Dude, definitely Bacon. Unfortunate that Avercamp is going up against him in the first round, because he's very good too.

Bacon - though I'm not sure I'd want them hanging in my house.

Seriously on the fence. I've been majorly trending towards the modern art, but that Dutch Where's Waldo... Nah, Bacon

Avercamp, Bacon's just a little too out there for me, I don't care if he really wrote Shakespeare's plays!

I like Bacon, but I'd rather put Avercamp on my Christmas postcards, Avercamp it i.

Bacon! I'm surprised you didn't showcase a triptych. He's one of the few artists I'm familiar with. Love that Pope! Avercamp is good too, but can't beat Bacon.

I find the Bacon more interesting--and disturbing. He gets my vote.

Avercamp by a mile--a frosty, ice-skating mile.

Yeah, hmmmm, well, Bacon is easy to respect and hard to love, and Avercamp's easy to love but harder to respect...Well, I'll throw my lot in with the hellfires of the 20th C, and vote for Bacon, while my gaze lingers fondly on Avercamp's cloud-dappled brick wall...

I love that all y'all are full of surprises, individually and as a group. Avercamp is probably a top-25 painter in my personal book -- Dutch Masters are smokin'! -- and I think of Bacon as a one-hit wonder, the guy who did that one with the Pope and the Valezquez reference. Avercamp by a frosty ice-skating mile!

Yea, that Pope is wild, but I'll buck the trend here and say Avercamp.
