Although it is not Dorkfest season, I feel moved by circumstances to confer an ad hoc award for Special Dorky Achievement. The recipient is the very person who is arguably responsible for me taking up the fine craft of blogging, MyDogIsChelsea!
And to be clear: the Dork Factor prompting this recognition consists only partially in the highly intelligent, well-educated, and generally savvy MDIC's we-all-make-mistakes-like-that blind spot. No, I think the key thing here is the impulse, on returning home, to announce one's private humiliation in the knowledge that it would entertain others.
To be sure, MDIC limited her announcement to a well-known online networking site, where she might well have expected that it would only be seen by her family, friends, and "friends." In reposting the incident here, although I have avoided fussy formalities such as requesting permission -- it would spoil the surprise! -- you will see that I have conformed to strict but subtle protocols to protect the anonymity of all concerned.
So here it is, MDIC: Your special award for Dorky Achievement. We are all very proud for you.

Beautiful!
And to be fair: http://www.amazon.com/Elbow-Grease-Orig-15-oz/dp/B000PR9NFG
I remember someone asking a dispatcher at work for something, and when she said "I'm new" and apologized for not knowing how to complete the request, he asked her for a bucket of propwash.
"Not THAT new," she replied, with a steely glare.
I spent more of my adult life than I would like to admit thinking the phrase "being raked over the coals" was "being raped over the coals" (definetly harsher than being raked).
Made me laugh out loud!
Oh this is awesome and the award is well-deserved!
We're not laughing WITH you, we're laughing AT you, and thanks ever so much. Laughter is the best medicine, right?
Oh, my. Wonderful.
