The Wednesday Quiz III:7 -- Name That Famous Artist!

The Wednesday Quiz -- Season III -- Quiz 7

Name That Famous Artist!

The Wednesday Quiz is a "closed-book" test of knowledge and intuition; please do not look up answers, ask others for help, or answer as a team.

Questions about the rules and the ~Fabulous Prizes~ are answered here.

---

This week's Quiz is the first visual one in a while, and a good excuse to throw in some pretty pictures. Each image is a reasonably characteristic, if not necessarily famous, piece by a painter with a distinctive style. For each image,

Who's the painter?

  15. As a control, I asked Darth if he wanted to do a quiz on famous painters. He said, "Yes, if it wasn't too much work," and started listing painters.

"Don't you want to look at the artwork?"

"That's more work, and it might stifle my creativity."

    2. Van Gogh
    3. that guy who did the Campbell soup cans
    4. Person #1 from The Group of Seven

  16. What we got here, using la gringissima's answers, is:

    1. Piet Mondrian
    2. Claude Monet
    3. Vincent Van Gogh
    4. Wassily Kandinsky
    5. Hieronymous Bosch
    6. Mark Rothko
    7. Grandma Moses
    8. Frida Kahlo
    9. Grant Wood

The gringa nailed it, as did Doc Schnell. Quiz legend Rex Parker, telecommuting in from Facebook, was right behind them, as was Quiz legend Mrs.5000.

Aviatrix did way better than Darth.

  17. Wooooooood! And here I was so smug at my knowledge that it was Thomas Hart Benton. Now I'm not even sure if Thomas Hart Benton's the name of an actual painter. Maybe it's one of the actors in "Taps." Criminy.
