The Wednesday Quiz III:6 -- The Quiz of Sixes

The Wednesday Quiz -- Season III -- Quiz 6

The Quiz of Sixes

The Wednesday Quiz is a "closed-book" test of knowledge and intuition; please do not look up answers, ask others for help, or answer as a team.

Questions about the rules and the ~Fabulous Prizes~ are answered here.

---

Twice six challenging questions centered around the sixth number: six! Twice six points apiece for your first six answers; six points apiece for your next six. That's a theoretical maximum of 108 points, but you'll hit the ceiling at 100.

1. Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, and Catherine Howard are three of the six ___________.

2. The sixth book of the Bible is the Book of __________.

3. Up, down, charm, strange, top, and bottom are the six flavors of ___________.

4. A currently popular industrial management strategy emphasizing strict quality control and data-based decision making is called "Six _______."

5. On June 5, 1967, Israel attacked Egypt. The brief but decisive conflict that followed is called the ______.

6. Victoria and Queensland are two of the six ____________.

7. The Longest Journey, Where Angels Fear to Tread, and Maurice are three of the six ______________.

8. What, mathematically speaking, is the value of "6!"?

9. If the five most populous countries are China, India, the U.S.A., Indonesia, and Brazil, and numbers seven through ten are Bangladesh, Nigeria, Russia, and Japan; then what is the SIXTH most populous country in the world? (Hint: it borders two of the others on the top ten list)

10. If the five physically largest countries of South America (a continent that generally doesn't get enough attention in these Quizzes) are Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Colombia, and Bolivia; and numbers seven through ten are Chile, Paraguay, Ecuador, and Guyana, than what is the SIXTH physically largest country in South America?

11. The "Pastoral" and "Pathetique" are the sixth symphonies by ______________ and _____________, respectively.

12. In 8 B.C., the sixth month of the Roman Calendar, Sextilis, was renamed _____________.

4. A currently popular industrial management strategy emphasizing strict quality control and data-based decision making is called "Six SIGMA."

5. On June 5, 1967, Israel attacked Egypt. The brief but decisive conflict that followed is called the SIX-DAY WAR.

6. Victoria and Queensland are two of the six STATES OF AUSTRALIA. Full marks for "provinces," half marks for "territories," which are something else in Australia (and most other federal systems).

7. The Longest Journey, Where Angels Fear to Tread, and Maurice are three of the six NOVELS BY E.M. FORSTER.

8. What, mathematically speaking, is the value of "6!"? 1x2x3x4x5x6 = 720! Or rather, 720.

9. What is the SIXTH most populous country in the world? PAKISTAN. (Apologies to those of you who picked Mexico for considering your answer way off base. Turns out Mexico is #11. I had no idea!)

10. What is the SIXTH physically largest country in South America? VENEZUELA

11. The "Pastoral" and "Pathetique" are the sixth symphonies by BEETHOVEN and TCHAIKOVSKY, respectively.

12. In 8 B.C., the sixth month of the Roman Calendar, Sextilis, was renamed AUGUST. (I'll work with "Augustus") It's followed by the seventh month, SEPTember, the eighth month, OCTOBER, and months nine and ten, NOVember and DECember. The early Roman calender sensibly took the winter off and just ignored January and February.

So, Elizabeth's near-perfect score bumped through the ceiling to 102 points before getting swatted back down to 100. Owl had 93, Mrs.5000 and Phineas both had 90, and Aviatrix, Morgan, la gringissima, and nichim all made it to the 80s.

Well done as usual, all y'all.
