The Monday Quiz goes to the Movies -- in the year 2000!
2. How about these two?
3. This one?
4. This one?
5. How about this one?
6. This one is a tiebreaker if more than eight people get E.P.s; otherwise, it's maybe extra credit or something. Anyway, it's one of my favorite films ever.
Here we have movie posters for various films from the legendary Y2K, lightly modified by having the names of the movies removed. Identify the movies.

RE #2: you're OK with synonyms for the title, right?
1 / High Fidelity + O Brother Where Art Thou?
2 / Castaway + Gladiator
3 / Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
4 / Traffic
5 / Snow Blind
6 / Jules and Jim (remake)
High Fidelity (John Cusack, yum) & O Brother, Where Art Thou?
Castaway & Gladiator
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Drug thing. Don't remember.
Dancer in the Dark (or something?)
Don't know, but in a Don "The Voice" LaFontaine trailer voiceover, nothing sounds as thrilling as "Juliette Binoche." ("In a world where Juliette Binoche wears a dress in the snow . . .")
If it's John Cusak, it has to be High Fidelity & Oh Brother Where Art Thou
Cast Away, Gladiator
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Bjork was in a movie... News to me.
(It's not Smila's Sense of Snow - that one starred Julia Ormond.) With that said, dunno
I missed one...
Traffic
& I was feeling pretty darned good for doing the Monday quiz on Monday.
Yes! Yeah!!
High Fidelity (LOVE the Cusacks!)
O Brother Where Art Thou? (great soundtrack!)
Cast Away (zzzz....what?)
Gladiator (Hello, Russell!)
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (which I own because it's beautiful)
Traffic (which I have still never seen)
Dancer in the Dark (Bjork is crazy)
The Widow of Saint-Pierre (I have seen maybe two french movies that didn't star Audrey Tautou!)
Yes, yes, yes!!!! I AM on a roll!
1. High Fidelity, O Brother, Where Art Thou
2. Cast Away, Gladiator
3. Hunt the Wumpus
4. Hunt the Wumpus II: Wumpus' Revenge
5. Dancer in the Dark
6. Hunt the Wumpus III: The Dark Side of the Wumpus
1.a. High Fidelity? I loved the scene where Jack Black goes off on the guy who wants to buy his daughter a (newer, bad) Stevie Wonder album (which I actually am somewhat ashamed to say I own).
1.b. O Brother, Where Art Thou?
2.a. Castaway?
2.b. Gladiator
3. Another one I should know. Something like "Hidden Tiger, Flying Dragon."
4. No idea.
5. Nope.
6. Dunno.
1. High Fidelity & O Brother, Where Art Thou?
2. Castaway & Gladiator. (The latter gets my nomination for worst Best Picture winner of my lifetime.)
3. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
4. Traffic
5. Viva Iceland!
6. Rowing Down the Delaware, Chewing on Their Underwear.
The one with Chow Yun Fat is probably Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (possibly the only movie I saw in the theater in 2000 - he's so sexy) and I saw the one with Bjork on video once I think but I don't remember what it's called. I don't know why I'm compelled to answer, I obviously have no chance to win a coveted exclamation point. But look, I have seen some movies! Really!
The correct answers, and opinions, are:
1. High Fidelity (enjoyable!) and
O Brother Where Art Thou? (enjoyable!)
2. Cast Away (good!) and Gladiator (the worst Best Picture of mhwitt's lifetime)
3. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (yawn...)
4. Traffic (I don't remember it well)
5. Dancer in the Dark (Bjork is brilliant. The movie is awfully good, but painful to watch.)
and
6. The Widow of Saint-Pierre (which is just toooooo great)
The big winner is of course Kadonkadonk, scoring her third E.P. in five weeks with a flawless identification of all eight movies.
MQLXI EPs also going out to Dan and fingerstothebone.
Well done to the winners and to all the rest of y'all, on a quiz that turned out to be a little harder than I intended. Sorry 'bout that....
@sis: ("In a world where Juliette Binoche wears a dress in the snow . . .") = Very nice!
@Nichim: You are compelled because the Quizzes are so darn fun! Right!? Right!?
Ah, yes, yes, that's it indeed.
I would like to thank everyone at Dearborn Video, where I worked for a year until Blockbuster moved in down the street and ran them out of business. Suck it, Blockbuster!!
That was way better than your geography quizzes!
I can't believe so many people remembered "Cast Away" - the various titles I considered for that one: "Stranded," "Marooned," "Shipwrecked," "Guy Stuck on Island," "Fantasy Island," "Talks to Volleyball," etc.
