The Thursday Quiz is an "Is It or Isn't It" game. From the list of twelve items, your job is to determine whether each IS or ISN'T a true example of the week's category.
Remember always the civic code:
No research, Googling, Wikiing, or use of reference books. The ThursdayThis Week's Category will grind you up and spit you out like a million other chumps that were drawn to it by the bright lights and the false hopes of fame and easy money!
Quiz is a POP quiz. Violators will be sent downtown for "questioning."

Oh man. I guessed so badly. But I am reminded that I love the word Jakarta and would have named a child that and called it Jack for short.
OK, here are the results!
ReplyDelete1. Belo Horizonte, Brazil -- YES. the 57th largest city in the world.
2. Busan, Bulgaria -- NO. Busan, S. Korea, is the 83rd largest city.
3. Dhaka, Bangladesh -- YES. the 35th largest city.
4. Hyderabad, Pakistan -- Problematic! NO. Hyderabad, INDIA is the 43rd largest city. But it turns out there's a Hyderabad, Pakistan, that at 1/6 the size of India's city is still a fairly big town. Since everybody who played got it wrong (or 1/6 right, or whatever), this question fortunately did not screw up the scoring.
5. Jakarta, Malaysia -- NO. Jakarta, Indonesia, is widely considered the 2nd largest city these days.
6. Khartoum, Tajikistan -- NO. Khartoum, Sudan, is the 58th largest city.
7. Kinshasa, Kenya -- NO. Kinshasha, Congo/Zaire, is the 29th largest city.
8. Kuala Lumpur, Mongolia -- NO. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is the 48th largest city.
9. Lahore, Iran -- NO. Lahore, Pakistan, is the 40th largest city.
10. Luanda, Angola -- Yes. the 88th largest city.
11. Medellin, Honduras -- NO. Medellin, Colombia, is the 98th largest city.
12. Shenzhen, South Korea -- NO. Shenzhen, China, is the 19th largest city.
Wow! It's a slugfest tonight!

The Silver Star goes to the always-dangerous DrSchnell, his sixth and his eighteenth Star overall. That puts him in undisputed second on the leaderboard in both the Silver Stars and toal Stars categories!
Nichim takes the Blue Star, her third and her sixth Star overall.
A whopping FOUR Green Stars this week, with recipients ranging from the indominable Rex Parker, first place in both Greens and in total Stars, to newcomer Margaret, who initiates her M5K Quiz trophy case. Margaret is the 40th person to take home Thursday Quiz lucre.
Veterans Elizabeth and Karmasartre also added Green Stars to their more established trophy cases.
@margaret: Oh, I already had one. He was great!
ReplyDelete@Calico: NOW who's talkin' naughty?
@boo: I liked it even better when it was called "Djakarta." And "Batavia" is a quaintly quirky name for a Southeast Asian city, if you can get over the sad colonial oppression of it all...
Point taken... But... In a theocracy... Come on you opened yourself up to that one!
ReplyDelete@Calico: Nah, I liked it! : )
