1. What is this man saying?
2. If I had not artfully obscured it, you could plainly see that the title of this book is ___________.
3. Who is this guy?
4. What do these young men call themselves? And what is the title of one of their works?
5. Why are these men in a box?
Submit your answers in the comments. You dig?
1 / Possibly "I have a dream". Or something from that speech, his most famous. Since he is caught in mid speech, he is probably uttering a single syllable. Based on the mouth shape, I would say he is saying "dream".
ReplyDelete2/ Catch-22.
3 / Bobby Kennedy (the first one).
4 / They call themselves Mitch, Noel, and Jimi. Collectively, they were called the Jimi Hendrix Experience. One of their works was "The Wind Cries Mary".
5 / The three astronauts are in an isolation chamber after their return from space. It may be on a Navy ship. Later in life, they all became Democrats.
1. "Will someone please remove thise muslim looking men out of the photo?"
ReplyDelete2. "Footloose"
3. Row 23 Seat 47: Ralph Krajewski
4. "Playas"
5. The latest members of Nixon's "hate list" rounded up for extermination.
1. "I have a dream"
ReplyDelete2. Catch-22
3. Robert Kennedy
4. Jimi Hendrix's "Experience", Purple Haze
5. Astronauts in isolation after returning to Earth
yeah, what he said.
ReplyDeletehe's giving that thing about having a dream or some such blather. i have no idea what he's saying right at this specific moment though.
ReplyDeletecatch 22. the worst book ever.
aw. robert kennedy. that family was cursed.
i know that's jimi hendrix. all i know is his famous cover of 'the star spangled banner'.
astronauts? decompressing?
1 "I HAVE A DREAM" (he said it quite forcefully. Or possibly "I have been to the mountain", or "Why can't I have one of those hats?"
ReplyDelete2. Catch-22
3. Robert F. Kennedy
4. Just mark me wrong. I recognize Hendrix, but I didn't know his group had a name. He was some sort of musician, right?
5. So the President won't catch any Moon-germs. It's the quarentine module for post-moon-landing Apollo astronauts. Eventually they figured out that nothing lives on the moon!
1. "I have a dream."
ReplyDelete2. Catch-22.
3. Robert F. Kennedy
4. Jimi Hendrix, but I don't know what they are collectively.
5. Because they just got back from wandering through space and need to be cleared of Vermicious Knids.
Cool blog! I was searching for a quiz blog for my own blog was happy to recommend it
ReplyDelete1. "I have a dream [...]"
ReplyDelete2. Catch-22. Bought a copy with this very cover about a year ago, but sadly still have not gotten around to reading it.
3. Robert Kennedy.
4. The Jimi Hendrix Experience. For a song I'll pick the semi-eponymous "Are You Experienced?" Have you ever been experienced? Well, I have. I dig the back tracking on that number.
5. Hmmmmm... They are astronauts, I reckon. Perhaps they are demonstrating what the cramped quarters of their spacecraft was like for Tricky Dick and an awed American public.
No doubt many of my co-workers here in Huntsville, Alabama ("The Rocket City") could go on for days about the details of picture #5.
1 I have a dream. . .
ReplyDelete2 Why, that would be the most excellent, inescapable Catch-22.
3 Bobby Kennedy, I think.
4 Immaculately coiffed. No, that would be the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Are You Experienced?
5 My god, they were jailed for singing back-up for Richard Nixon. Houston, those would be NASA astronauts in a pressure chamber readjusting to Earth's gravity. . . in a modified Airstream trailer?! I love it.
1 "I have a dream today. I have a dream that one day my four children will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character, I have a dream today!" I <3 MLK
ReplyDelete2 Catch 22
3 Bobby Kennedy
4 Um...Earth Wind & Fire?
5 Because they just got back from the moon and they haven't readjusted to gravity yet? Someone thinks they have space cooties?
1. "I have a Dream" - which plays incessantly and incoherently on a water screen outside my office after 7pm. Water screen - cool concept, except if your office is 4 floors above it.
ReplyDelete2. Catch 22 - fav character and name: Milo Minderbinder
3. Bobby Kennedy - from When Harry Met Sally: "Ted Kennedy was SHOT?"
4. The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Little Wing
5. Apollo mission. Coming or going? Based on their smiles, they are relieved to be back on earth. And that pesky president likely wouldn't be there just to see them off.

That's totally what I was thinking!!
1. I have a dream that one day these quizzes will not be absurdly easy!
ReplyDelete2. Yossarian and the quizzes that are so easy the answers are given in silly "wrong" form thus bringing about ever easier quizzes. man, what a.... situation.
3. Hey, it's my brother! Oh, did you mean the guy in the FRONT of the picture??
4. Chuck Berry and the Excrement Experience. They did that song, 'Hey Joey B. Goode.' ("Where you goin' with that guitar in your hand? Gonna play a song for my old lady that'll really slay her!")
5. They're going to the center of the earth. The Hades 11 mission.
zzzzzzzzz
1. "I have a dream, etc. etc."
ReplyDelete2. Catch-22
3. Bobby Kennedy
4. The Jimi Hendrix Experience. And one of the weirdest album titles: "Axis: Bold as Love". These young men, incidentally, opened up for the Monkees early in their career. That'd have been something to see.
5. Those dudes who first walked on the moon talking to Tricky Dick. Didn't want the president to get Moon Scurvy, probably.
1. "I have a dream..."
ReplyDelete2. Catch-22
3. Robert Kennedy
4. Jimi Hendrix Experience. They sang "Are you Experienced?" That may even be the title of the song...
5. ...they heard a bee and are hiding from it (like my dog does)? They are fooling around with Airstream 1, the president's official travel trailer and have kiddingly locked him out? Or perhaps they have just returned from (or are about to embark on) a space mission, and they have to remain in quarantine.
1. I have a dream
ReplyDelete2 Catch 22
3 Rfk
4. Jimmi Hendrix Experience. Voodoo Child
5. It's after the return of Apollo 11
1. "I have a dream"
ReplyDelete2. Catch 22
3. Bobby Kennedy
4. Jimi Hendrix (et al?). Castles Made of Sand.
5. It's a NASA demonstration of some sort.
I guess I better put my guesses in:
ReplyDelete1. Right at that instant? I'm not sure, but how about "I have a dream..."
2. Catch-22
3. Robert Kennedy
4. What they call themselves -- Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylon, and ?? Title? Nah, it's ok, I'm good.
5. One guy went in looking for a cat and, whoa, what did he find but two more copies of himself!
ReplyDelete1. Well, I don't know exactly what he was saying at that very second, but it's the 'I Have a Dream' speech.
2. Catch-22.
3. Robert Kennedy.
4. The Jimi Hendrix Experience.
5. They are in quarantine after a trip to the moon. "Because they just got back from wandering through space and need to be cleared of Vermicious Knids" was also acceptable.
Number 5 was a tough one to score. The astronauts are in quarantine, is the answer I was looking for (not repressurization, since their ship was pressurized, and not adjusting to gravity, since you wouldn't need a box for that).
ReplyDeleteApplying this admittedly somewhat arbitrary standard, we end up sending out five of the big cardboard Exclamation Points tonight. They will go to old-timers drschnell, la gringissima, Cartophiliac, and karmasartre, as well as to first-time winner Ben. By my count and knowledge, Ben completes the fourth husband-wife pair to both have L&TM5K winnings proudly displayed on the mantlepiece. Well done!
@Not Cartophilia: Dismal showing. Dismal.
ReplyDelete@gs49: Hendrix was, indeed, "some kind of musician"!
@Lisa: Thank you!
@Rebel: I rejoice that you guessed "Earth Wind & Fire" and spared me deciding whether "space cooties" constituted a technicality.
@Phineas: If you feel screwed out of #5, you are probably right.
@Anonymous: Wrong side of bed again, Chance? Not that I disagree.
@drschnell: "Moon Scurvy." Awesome.
@fingers: Much as I like the idea of Nixon paying a bland ceremonial visit to the replication chamber, alas, no.
and @mac: As with Phineas, above, if you feel screwed out of #5, I can totally see why.
Also, I've been enjoying our argument. Probably most readers haven't seen it -- if you go back to the Seven Wonders post, you can follow mac and I having a free and frank exchange of views in the comments over Wonder #2, the Belmont Condos. The short version: mac hates the building, I don't mind it so much.
Thanks for playing the Monday Quiz, everybody!
I'm so embarrassed! I forgot anti-grav wasn't yet invented in the sixties!
ReplyDeleteLOL... I do my best, um such that it is. ;)
ReplyDeleteAs for the Belmont Condos, my former boss lives there and the insides are really cool.... all open plan & heated floors. So I say it's a cool building too.
